About the story
The Call of the Wild, published in 1903, tells the story of Buck, a big, strong dog who lives happily on a farm in California. Buck enjoys his peaceful life with his owner, but one day he is stolen and sold as a sled dog in Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. Suddenly, Buck has to work in freezing cold weather, pulling heavy sleds and fighting to survive. He faces new challenges every day, like finding food, defending himself from other dogs, and learning how to pull sleds across the snowy wilderness.
As Buck adjusts to his new life, he begins to discover his wild instincts. He learns to listen to his senses and trust himself. Over time, he becomes a leader among the sled dogs and earns the respect of both dogs and humans. In the wild, Buck feels “the call of the wild” — a deep connection to nature and a desire to live freely. This call becomes stronger and stronger, and Buck has to decide whether to stay with humans or live as a wild animal. Throughout his journey, Buck faces many dangers, but these challenges make him braver and stronger.
The Call of the Wild is a story about survival, courage, and finding out who you really are. Through Buck’s journey, Jack London shows the beauty of nature and the importance of following your instincts. Buck’s story is full of action and emotion, reminding readers to be brave, to respect the wilderness, and to find their own place in the world. This classic story has remained popular for over a hundred years and continues to inspire readers to explore their own strength and courage.
